Flocculant
Polyacrylamide is a kind of linear organic macromolecule polymer. It is also a kind of polymer water treatment flocculants product. It can specially absorb suspended particles in water and act as a bridge between particles to make fine particles form a relatively large floc and accelerates the precipitation rate. This process is called flocculation and because of its good flocculation effect PAM is used as flocculants for water treatment and is widely used in wastewater treatment. Currently, a large amount of water is required in mine's mineral processing field, and mineral solids are effectively separated from the aqueous solution. The use of flocculants can promote the rapid sinking of solid minerals. Therefore, thickeners, filters, filter presses and other equipment can be used in the concentrate and tailings systems in most of mineral processing. The use of flocculants can accelerate the concentration of fine materials and increase the filtration efficiency, thereby improving the separation of minerals and water, increasing production efficiency, reducing tailings loss, and reducing production operating costs.

Product Advantages

Polyacrylamide is called PAM for short and PAM has the following physical properties and service characteristics:

-Physical Properties: molecular formula (CH2CHCONH2)n

Structural formula (CH2CHO) n PAM is a linear polymer and it is soluble in water and practically insoluble in benzene, ether, esters, acetone and other general organic solvents. Its aqueous solution is a nearly transparent viscous liquid, which is non-dangerous, non-toxic and non-corrosive. Solid PAM has hygroscopicity and its hygroscopicity increases as does the ion intensity. PAM has good thermal stability; it has good stability when heated to 100°C, however, when it is above 150°C, nitrogen gas is easily decomposed, imidization occurs between molecules, and it is insoluble in water with density (g) ml 23°C 1.302.With a glass transition temperature of 153°C, PAM shows non-newtonian flow under stress.

Service Characteristics

-Flocculability: PAM can make suspended matter electrically neutralized, bridge adsorption and flocculation

-Adhesiveness: It can play a role in adhesion by mechanical, physical, and chemical action.

-Reducing resistance: PAM can effectively reduce the frictional resistance of fluids. Adding trace PAM in water can reduce resistance by 50~80%.

-Thickening: PAM has a thickening effect under both neutral and acidic conditions. When the PH is above 10 °C PAM is easily hydrolyzed.

Introduction to the principle of PAM

-Principle of flocculation: When PAM is used for flocculation it is related to the type and surface properties of the flocculated material, especially the action potential, viscosity, turbidity, and PH of the suspension. The action potential on the surface of the particles is the reason for the particles to inhibit polymerization. The addition of PAMs with opposite surface charges can cause the action potential to decrease and coagulate.

-Adsorption bridging: The PAM molecular chains are immobilized on different particle surfaces, forming a polymer bridge between the particles, allowing the particles to form aggregates and settle.

-Surface adsorption: Various adsorption of polar group particles on PAM molecules.

-Reinforcing: PAM molecular chains and dispersed phase, through a variety of mechanical, physical, chemical, etc., will be involved in the dispersed phase to form a network, and thus play a reinforcing role.
